Politics in America is a nauseating, embarrassing subject. The Plutocracy is so shameless that, in last night’s presidential debate, Jill Stein of the Green Party was barred from participating and her supporters were arrested. She had to resort to twitter in order to influence in some way our national discourse. What passes for democracy in the US is no longer even window-dressed to appear legitimate, and an increasing number of voters have difficulty taking seriously the options presented to citizens, particularly now that Trump has degraded the presidential run to a reality show.
Alternative media outlet DemocracyNOW expanded the debate to include Jill Stein in a special feature where she was able to “join” in a two-hour special coverage.
It’s as clear now as it was when the Occupy Movement initially took flight that it’s up to bloggers, tweeters, and other horizontal content providers to participate in the democratic processes in order to help educate the population. Both on the left and the right side of the political spectrum, there are candidates other than sleazy Trump and establishment Hillary.
The Green Party is a true alternative for lefties. Although Stein has been criticized by many Skeptics and Atheists for holding pseudo-scientific opinions, her party holds firm to the progressive and environmental values that Greens are known for elsewhere, particularly in Europe where the Green Party has strong support and has helped to fashion the multi-party social democracies that are often held up as near-utopias by the left. Greens are globally known for their strong support of Labor and economic justice.
On the right side of the political spectrum, the Libertarians have historically championed what they consider to be personal and economic liberties, usually assuming positions that are considered by most to be socially liberal and fiscally conservative.
Every four years we are shepherded into voting for the least scary of the establishment politicians, all of whom have been bought and paid for by bankers, Big Pharma, Big Oil, the military industrial complex, and other tentacles of the American corporatocracy. The Greens and the Libertarians, and other alternative political options, will continue to be dismissed as not credible until large enough numbers of everyday people go out and cast votes to change the paradigm.
Please, this year at least educate yourself about the alternatives before you make up your mind.
